Valentia’s Spectrum Telehealth Management system goes live at new National Telehealth Service in New Zealand
November 1, 2015

In less than five months following the announcement of contract award by the Ministry of Health for a new, enhanced, integrated, national telehealth service (NTS) for New Zealand to leading tele-triage organisation, Homecare Medical, Valentia Technologies has successfully implemented its Spectrum Telehealth Management system to enable new NTS service go-live on schedule on November 1, 2015 .

The new NTS service sees the amalgamation of what was previously seven discrete services provided by separate organisations into one combined national service operated by Homecare Medical. Now all seven services  - Health triage and advice; Poisons advice; Quit smoking services; Alcohol and drug advice; Immunisation and vaccination advice; Depression advice and services; and Gambling advice and services – can be accessed from one entity. The system provides a single patient community electronic healthcare record that is common across all seven services in addition to providing interfaces to the National Health Index (NHI) and to primary, secondary and tertiary third party systems.

Spectrum Telehealth Management supports multichannel triage and delivery of telehealth services by phone, email, text message, websites, online chat and, in the future, social media applications. Based on current call volumes to existing services, call and other electronic contact volumes are expected to exceed 2.0 million contact events annually.

Spectrum Telehealth Management operates in a secure private cloud environment in accordance with Ministry of Health standards and requirements. Deployed as a single instance with full fail-over, the implementation enables NTS clinical and non-clinical staff to work from three locations in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch as well as working virtually from remote locations, including from home.

Attending the go-live of the new national telehealth service, Peter Nelson, President Business Development – Valentia Technologies, stated “Valentia is enormously proud to see Spectrum Telehealth Management implemented as a core component of the new national NTS service for New Zealand. Operational go-live is the culmination of a tremendous team effort with Homecare Medical and its other suppliers and, working together, we were all focused on the on-time delivery of a modern, world-class integrated telehealth service.”

Andrew Slater, CEO – Homecare Medical, added “Valentia Technologies put unstinting effort and commitment into delivering an extremely innovative and effective National Telehealth Service (NTS) solution from beginning to end in just four months. They took the time at the outset to fully understand our needs and as a result the implementation ran very smoothly. Spectrum Telehealth Management now enables the delivery of seven multichannel telehealth health services across New Zealand, serving our population of 4.5 million. Spectrum Telehealth is well designed, well supported and very versatile, giving us opportunities to innovate even further for better health outcomes for all New Zealanders.”
