Valentia Technologies releases Outpatients Reminder & Paging System (ORPS™)

Valentia Technologies today announced the release of its Outpatients Reminder & Paging System (ORPS™). ORPS™ service enables Outpatients Departments (OPDs) in hospitals and clinics to send appointment reminders to outpatients at a predefined interval prior to their scheduled OPD appointment. Additionally, ORPS™ gives outpatients a text-based option to cancel or reschedule their appointment if they are unable to attend.

As well as providing a valuable appointment reminder service, ORPS™ enables OPD managers to more efficiently utilize outpatients facilities through minimizing the incidence of did-not-attends (DNAs) in advance of clinic dates, thereby allowing managers to notify alternative outpatients of available freed-up appointments.

ORPS™ also has a paging element that pages patients when they are sitting in the OPD queue to see their clinical practitioner. In-queue patients can also text query the system about their place in the queue.

Speaking at the launch of the ORPS™ service, Peter Nelson, Chief Executive Officer at Valentia, stated:

Valentia's ORPS™ service can have a substantial positive impact on outpatients waiting lists by reducing DNAs. Available evidence clearly proves that using SMS- based appointment reminder systems achieves a direct reduction in missed appointments.

The messaging reply-path features of ORPS™ enables OPD staff to easily receive reply messages from patients, thereby creating the opportunity for increased efficiency and patient throughput. Importantly, it can directly contribute to a reduction in OPD waiting lists.”

Peter Nelson added that other extensive features ORPS™ include an intuitive desktop application for the management of OPD and clinic diaries that can be directly queried by patients using simple SMS commands. ORPS™ also enables clinicians to build their appointment schedules/diaries independently of PAS, thereby enabling standalone SMS-based appointment scheduling, reminders and paging. As well as SMS, ORPS™ also supports unlimited two-way MMS messaging.

In addition to Out Patients Departments, ORPS™ can play a similar role for GP practices, chronic disease management clinics and day cases.

ORPS™ is offered as a managed service element of Valentia's Healthcare Mobile Messaging Platform and can be easily interfaced with PAS (Patient Administration Systems) or similar patient scheduling systems via XML and HL7.

Peter Nelson also stated that a further key feature of ORPS is its easy ability to interface with PAS systems while also facilitating two-way mobile phone-based messaging in an easy-to-use and affordable way. Valentia's system has been designed to ensure that it requires minimal technical input for interfacing with PAS while running in an unattended environment, either direct from the location of the OPD or from Valentia's secure managed data centre environment. Additional features of Opus™ enable message senders to define alternative or multiple reply paths for both email and SMS. Using the system, organisations can easily reserve shortcodes, MSISDNs or keywords for various departments, users or marketing campaigns. This latter feature enables users to run comprehensive marketing campaigns without requiring any detailed technical knowledge.

ther features include address harvesting : enabling users to create or harvest email addresses by point a harvesting robot at specified email folders, documents or web pages.

Opus™ also supports multi-SMTP relay hopping in order to address the issue of poorly-configured spam filters which are found on many public email systems and which can block the broadcast of legitimate bulk email.
